# Chronos > Chronos is a Postgres-compatible database for AI agents, built by 2090 Labs. Every agent works in a world: an instant copy of the whole database (forked in microseconds, at any size) that it may change as it likes. What it changes reaches main only when it keeps the merge policy you set (at most N rows, no deletes, never these tables) or when a person approves it in a review; every table can be read as it was at any minute of the last hour, and any merge, or everything one agent did, can be undone row by row. Apps connect over the Postgres wire protocol; coding agents connect over MCP. Two products: Chronos DB, the database your own agents work in (self-hosted, source-available under BUSL-1.1; Chronos Cloud, hosted, is coming), and Chronos Gateway, the same engine in front of the Postgres a product already runs, so a product can add AI agents that each see one customer’s rows and never hold a Postgres credential. The docs describe Chronos Cloud, the hosted service, which opens from the waitlist. The self-hosted engine has docs of its own (below); its SQL, worlds, merge policies and MCP tools are the same. ## Products - [Chronos DB](https://chronos.2090.tech/db): the database your own agents work in. A world per agent, rules on every merge, an hour of history, Postgres on the wire plus an MCP server. Install with one line on macOS 13+ or Linux. - [Chronos Gateway](https://chronos.2090.tech/gateway): add agents to your product and keep your Postgres. Each run sees one customer’s rows, agents get an hour-long run token and never a Postgres credential, writes land in one checked transaction or wait for your team or the end user to approve in a widget. Docker, a Linux service or Helm; Postgres 12–18, Supabase and Neon. - [Pricing](https://chronos.2090.tech/pricing): plans and limits. ## Docs ### Get started - [Introduction](https://chronos.2090.tech/docs): A Postgres-compatible database where every agent works in its own copy of your data, and changes reach production only by your rules or your approval. - [Quickstart](https://chronos.2090.tech/docs/quickstart): From sign-up to an agent’s first reviewed change, in about five minutes. - [Core concepts](https://chronos.2090.tech/docs/concepts): Main, worlds, merges, agents, rules and history: the few ideas the rest of the docs build on. ### Connect - [Coding agents (MCP)](https://chronos.2090.tech/docs/agents): Connect Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, VS Code or any MCP client, and how the agent signs in and finds its project. - [Your app (Postgres)](https://chronos.2090.tech/docs/apps): Connect your application with DATABASE_URL, as to any Postgres, and point tests at a world. - [CLI](https://chronos.2090.tech/docs/cli): chronos init and the chronos cloud commands: sign-in, the files they write, settings and errors. ### Worlds - [Worlds](https://chronos.2090.tech/docs/worlds): Fork, switch, list, change and drop worlds: instant, isolated copies of the database. - [Diff and merge](https://chronos.2090.tech/docs/diff-and-merge): See exactly what a world changed, and land it: three-way merges, conflicts, partial merges, rebase and undo. - [Merge policies and reviews](https://chronos.2090.tech/docs/merge-policies): Approve rules once. Merges that keep to them land on their own; the rest wait for a person. - [Merge checks](https://chronos.2090.tech/docs/merge-checks): Queries every merge’s result must find nothing in: rules about the data, checked inside the merge. - [Stale reads and scope](https://chronos.2090.tech/docs/safe-agents): Hold a merge whose decisions rest on data that changed, or that wrote outside what it said it would. - [Time travel and undo](https://chronos.2090.tech/docs/history): Read any table as it was, restore a world, undo a merge or everything one agent did. - [Simulations](https://chronos.2090.tech/docs/simulations): Fork hundreds of worlds from one moment, run a script in each, score them and keep the best. ### Build - [Auth for your app](https://chronos.2090.tech/docs/auth): Sign-up and sign-in for your app’s users, with signed tokens your server checks. Accounts live outside your database. - [Vectors and search](https://chronos.2090.tech/docs/vectors): pgvector columns and HNSW indexes, Postgres full-text search, and ranked text search over a table. - [Moving from Postgres](https://chronos.2090.tech/docs/migrate): Bring an existing database over with pg_dump and psql, and check it came over whole. ### Reference - [SQL](https://chronos.2090.tech/docs/sql): What Chronos runs, the statements only Chronos has, and where it differs from Postgres 16. - [MCP tools](https://chronos.2090.tech/docs/mcp): Every tool an agent sees, with its parameters and what it returns. - [Platform API](https://chronos.2090.tech/docs/api): The HTTP API behind the CLI and the dashboard: API keys, projects, worlds, reviews and usage. - [Errors](https://chronos.2090.tech/docs/errors): SQLSTATE codes and HTTP statuses, what causes each, and what to do. ### Account - [Teams and sign-in](https://chronos.2090.tech/docs/teams): Orgs, roles, invites, how people sign in, and the keys and tokens that act for them. - [Other people’s agents](https://chronos.2090.tech/docs/agent-access): Let someone else’s coding agent work on your database: they ask, you approve what it may do, for how long. - [Plans and limits](https://chronos.2090.tech/docs/plans): What the free plan includes, what counts against it, and how sleeping databases wake. - [Security](https://chronos.2090.tech/docs/security): What Chronos protects, and what it leaves to you. ## Self-hosting - [Self-host docs](https://chronosdb-docs.vercel.app): running Chronos DB yourself: install, configure, attach to Postgres, operate. - [Chronos DB on GitHub](https://github.com/Abhishekxdg/chronosdb): source, releases and install.sh. Source-available under BUSL-1.1. - [Postgres compatibility](https://github.com/Abhishekxdg/chronosdb/blob/main/docs/postgres-compatibility.md): where the engine stands against Postgres 16, in numbers. - [Chronos Gateway releases](https://github.com/Abhishekxdg/chronos-gateway-releases/releases): signed binaries, the Docker image and install.sh. ## Full text - [llms-full.txt](https://chronos.2090.tech/llms-full.txt): every docs page as Markdown, in one file. ## Optional - [Home](https://chronos.2090.tech): the site, with how a change lands drawn step by step. - [Legal](https://chronos.2090.tech/legal): terms, privacy, cookies, acceptable use, data processing. - [2090 Labs](https://2090.tech): who makes it. - [About 2090 Labs](https://2090.tech/about): the founders, how it started, and where each product stands.
